The Kenyatta’s are arguably one of the wealthiest families in the country.

Known for business cutting across the breadth and width of the country, the family’s wealth runs into billions of shillings.

But in a bid to exactly ascertain what the family owns, sources indicate that about 40 auditors have been over the last 18 months working to establish the extent of the wealth.

The team is working from a Nairobi office and was asked by the family to carry out the audit, the first of its kind.

With a job description of finding out what, where and in what shape, the lands, buildings and farms belong to the first family, the team is still hold up at work almost two years on.

The duration that the auditors have been working only serves to demonstrate the enormous wealth that Mzee Kenyatta had. The family has openly been linked to large tracks of land in the Coast, Rift Valley and Central Provinces.

The combined acreage of all the land owned by the Kenyatta family is equal to Nyanza province, however this is has been disputed.

In business, they are party to Brookside Dairy, Heritage Hotels chain that includes, Voyager and Silver Beach hotels in Mombasa as well as talk of owning Blue Post Hotel in Thika among others.

The family also owns the countrywide timber firm, Timsales. The family has a major stakes in Commercial Bank of Africa, Prestige Hotels in Taveta, Hilton Hotel and real estate, including residential houses near Nairobi State House.
