Shinda Smart 6969 looking for a comeback

As word went round that SMS-based “Shinda Smart 6969” lottery, had been banned by the government, the fight back by the directors was fierce.

The kind of gusto that the firm went about in countering the government’s efforts to run it out of business was zealous.

Indeed at one point, several questions were raised on whose backing they had to disregard directives from among others the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB), Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and the Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK).

However, details are emerging that one of the firm’s directors Mr. Adil Bashir is still spoiling for a fight with the government. The mode of his fightback is still scanty on whether it will be through the courts or political patronage.

The businessman is said to be a one of the financial contributors to Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, political kitty.

Mr Bashir is a director of the firm- Interactive Gaming and Lottery together with a group of Romanians. Their argument is that the have fully complied with the regulations and needs to be allowed to operate.

But authorities we are made to understand accuse him of billing for sending unsolicited text messages to mobile phones. The lottery it is said raked in Sh1.2 billion in it is initial launch, but never deposited the requisite 25 per cent of this amount to a charity as required by law
