Consumers sue Safaricom

Bizextras has learnt that a group of consumers have taken mobile service operator Safaricom to court over the Mobile Number Portability.

The group led by Mr Alex Gakuru, the chair of ICT Consumers Association of Kenya filed the case HCC 170 of 2011. Alex M. Gakuru and others vs Safaricom Limited.

Last week it was the operator which was in court seeking orders against Porting Access Kenya and its chairman Patrick Musimba. Read it here

The finer details of the suit filled by Mr Gakuru are yet to be made public, but once they are we shall have them.

Number portability has remained a ‘hot potato for industry players over one month since it was launched.

Airtel, Safaricom and Porting Access Kenya have been at loggerheads of the issue with Safaricom taking most flack.

Other providers Orange Telkom and Yu have remained as spectators as the war on portability rages on.
