PRESS STATEMENT FROM PM ODINGA’S OFFICE

Prime Minister Raila Odinga

The Prime Minister today called a high level meeting involving key government institutions including the Office of the President, Treasury, The Central Bank of Kenya, The Ministry of Planning, National Development and Vision 2030, the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics and the Vision 2030 Secretariat to address the current depreciation of the Kenya Shilling.

While recognising the measures already taken by the Central Bank of Kenya to address this problem, the Prime Minister reiterated the need for further actions to restore confidence in the financial market.

In this respect, the Prime Minister constituted a high level technical team that also includes key stake holders in the private sector to come up with comprehensive measures to be announced early next week.

The team begins work immediately.
